Background: Anxiety disorders are highly prevalent and often require long-term management. Homeopathy is frequently sought as an alternative or complementary treatment, but its efficacy for anxiety needs rigorous evaluation.
Objective: To systematically review and meta-analyze randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the efficacy of individualized homeopathic treatment for anxiety disorders.
Methods: A systematic search was conducted across major electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, AMED) for RCTs comparing individualized homeopathy with placebo or conventional treatment for anxiety disorders. Data extraction and risk of bias assessment were performed independently by two reviewers. Meta-analysis was conducted using random-effects models.
Results: Five eligible RCTs (n=450 patients) were included. Meta-analysis showed a statistically significant reduction in anxiety scores in the homeopathy group compared to placebo (Standardized Mean Difference = -0.65; 95% CI: -0.98 to -0.32; p=0.0001). Heterogeneity was moderate (I²=55%). Adverse events were minimal in both groups.
Conclusion: Individualized homeopathic treatment appears to be effective in reducing symptoms of anxiety disorders. More high-quality, large-scale RCTs are needed to confirm these findings and explore long-term outcomes.
